It’s your environment. Here, you can play a vital role in its protection. With purposeful, influential work that enhances lives, places and communities now and in the future.

Tackling climate and biodiversity emergencies means we need to think and work differently when it comes to what we do and how we do it. It also means drawing on our greatest strengths – our culture, and the commitment of our colleagues and partners.

BG-Pattern-Pink

Valuing difference. Including everyone.

People are our greatest asset. It’s important that each of our colleagues feels they can bring their whole self to work, without fear of judgment or prejudice. We believe everyone should have an equal chance of achieving their life goals and be appreciated and valued for who they are.

Why equality, diversity and inclusion are important to us

The environment is always changing. Society is too. Every day brings a new challenge.

Empowering a diverse workforce will help us rise to each challenge, tackle the climate emergency and help us create a better place for everyone.

Focusing on equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) ensures our decisions are fair and transparent. It means we can all bring different abilities, knowledge and ideas to innovate and improve efficiency. We can do and achieve more for people and the environment when we bring our individual skills together.

BG-Pattern-Pink

We have an increasing number of employee networks and forums that support our corporate EDI aspirations, including:

  • Race and ethnicity
  • Gender equality
  • LGBT+
  • Mental health
  • Disability (such as dyslexia, hearing loss, visual impairment)
  • Faith and belief
  • Social equity
  • Respect at work

We welcome applications from all sections of the community, particularly from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME), disabled, female and LGBT+ candidates, so that our team really does represent and understand the communities we work with.

Wellbeing

At the Environment Agency, everything you do directly contributes to the nation’s wellbeing.
So, we want to provide a working experience that’s life-enhancing for you too.

BG-Pattern-Pink

We believe it’s possible to create a working environment that offers challenge and growth, while supporting people to live healthy, balanced and purposeful lives.

That’s why we enable our colleagues to work flexibly and remotely, where possible, and to meet their wider responsibilities through every stage of their life and career.

We’ll ensure that lessons learned during the Coronavirus pandemic continue to shape our future. It means greater flexibility in our working practices and better work life balance. And it means better use of technology, lower carbon emissions and reduced environmental impact.

We’ve invested heavily to ensure people can work safely too – with the best training and equipment to keep them from harm, even in challenging working environments.

We know that everyone needs a little help and support from time to time – especially when things go wrong in life. That’s why our “Life Pod” wellbeing resources cover everything you need to help both in work and at home.

You’ll also have access to a variety of staff networks, our listening service of over 200 wellbeing supporters, and our wellbeing app.
